The Lindamood Phonemic Sequencing® (LiPS®) for Reading,
Spelling and Speech
Many children and adults have difficulty judging sounds within words. Although they see letters correctly, they cannot detect and correct their errors in reading and spelling. This causes:
- Decoding: Errors such as "steam" for stream, "imagination" for immigration, "claps" for clasps
- Spelling: Errors such as "gril" for girl, "cret" for correct, "eqeutment" for equipment
- Pronunciation Errors such as "death" for deaf, "flusterated" for frustrated
The Lindamood Phonemic Sequencing® (LiPS®) Program (formerly called the ADD Program,
Auditory Discrimination in Depth) successfully stimulates phonemic awareness. Individuals
become aware of the mouth actions which produce speech sounds. This awareness becomes
the means of verifying sounds within words and enables individuals to become self-correcting
in reading and spelling, and speech.

- The Wilson Reading System®
The Wilson Reading System is a research-based reading and writing program. It is a
complete curriculum for teaching decoding and encoding (spelling) beginning with
phoneme segmentation. WRS directly teaches the structure of words in the English
language so that students master the coding system for reading and spelling. Unlike
other programs that overwhelm the student with rules, the language system of
English is presented in a systematic and cumulative manner so that it is manageable.
It provides an organized, sequential system with extensive controlled text to help
teachers implement a multisensory structured language program.
The basic purpose of the Wilson Reading System is to teach students fluent decoding and
encoding skills to the level of mastery. From the beginning steps of the program, it also
includes sight word instruction, fluency, vocabulary, oral expressive language development
and comprehension.

EmPOWER
EmPOWER is an instructional method for teaching students to write expository text. It is a step-by-step
method that a student follows when writing an essay; the method makes clear the kinds of thinking,
subroutines, and strategies needed to develop a well-written text. Using EmPOWER, the teacher mentors
students through all stages of the writing process using a series of questions and strategies that build on
one another. Together, they enable students to evaluate and analyze their assignments, see the
organizational patterns of their thinking, transfer their thinking into structured text, and evaluate their written work.

- Fast ForWord Family of Programs
The Fast ForWord program is a reading intervention designed for K-12 students who are reading below
grade level. The Fast ForWord program develops brain processing efficiency through intensive, adaptive
exercises. It develops and strengthens memory, attention, processing rate, and sequencing—the cognitive
skills essential for learning and reading success. The strengthening of these skills results in a wide range
of improved critical language and reading skills such as phonological awareness, phonemic awareness,
fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, decoding, working memory, syntax, grammar, and other skills
necessary to learn how to read or to become a better reader.
