What can I expect from speech therapy? |
| For those of you who are not familiar with speech therapy, I have outlined a few of the basics. It is important to know that treatment is specific to your child and is based on his/her unique communication needs. I feel that therapy achieves the greatest results when parents and professionals work as a team. I hope you have the opportunity to observe and participate in therapy regularly. It will help you to understand your child’s strengths and weaknesses and it will lead to greater generalization. I may even ask that you practice some of the skills at home. |

How long is each therapy session? |
| The amount of time spent in speech therapy varies depending upon the child. All children will have one session per week, though I may recommend more in a few cases. The length of each session depends upon the age of the child. Generally, sessions are 30, 45, or 60 minutes, with older children staying a greater length of time. |

What do you do in speech therapy? |
| I prefer mostly play-based therapy. I like to target each skill through a variety of materials and modalities. To this end, I incorporate goals and/or skills into game or book activities. I also enjoy using technology whenever possible. Children tend to enjoy computer work and are highly motivated by this type of activity. Occasionally, when appropriate, I will do drill work. Generally, I will work on 3-4 goals at a time. |

| It depends upon your insurance company and coverage. In many cases, speech therapy is a reimbursable expense. Your speech therapist will work with you to document a diagnosis, goals and billing in order to facilitate coverage. |
